The Ministry of Tourism is preparing for post-Covid-19 travel with Wonderpass powered by Angkorpass Technology that enables seamless travel planning through a phone app and a wristband.

Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said that having a rehabilitation plan for the tourism sector after the Covid-19 crisis is crucial and transitioning to a digital technology platform will make payments fast and easy for visitors.

The minister will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Angkorpass Technology on Thursday.

Cambodia Tourism Federation (CTF) president Chef Luu Meng told Khmer Times yesterday: “We are ready to work with Ministry of Tourism on this digital system.”

“We are private sector businesses ready to manage new technology together,” he said, adding that special attention needs to be given to planning ahead for the future when travel opens up again.

“We have to be prepared from three to six months ahead of time before tourists come to Cambodia. We are all working towards the same goal of making Cambodia the ‘destination of choice’ for tourists.”

He said the CTF started as four associations coming together, but has since expanded to include nine associations and two private companies. It continues to expand with the goal to engage all aspects of the private sector and provide a platform to build the tourism industry.

According to the Angkor Pass website, which is already up-and-running: “The Angkor Pass Project combines the convenience of an all-inclusive experience with innovative wristband technology to give you a limitless adventure in culture-rich Cambodia without the headache of planning and organising your holiday, fumbling with paper tickets or spending your time in long queues.”

The website touts easy-access to attractions, hotels, restaurants and transportation with special app-only discounts and up-to-the-minute information. Seeking to attract millennials and Gen-Xers, it offers paperless travel on your phone and your wrist.

The company announced on its Facebook page in January that the project would be called “Wonderpass”.
