The newly-appointed Singaporean Ambassador to Cambodia, Teo Lay Cheng yesterday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, where they exchanged views on how to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

According to Mr Hun Sen’s assistant, Eang Sophalleth, the Ambassador congratulated Cambodia on its rapid development and sustainable economic growth while the Premier wished Ambassador Teo a good and fruitful mandate in Cambodia.

“The new Singapore diplomat also highlighted the good bilateral and regional cooperation between the two countries in terms of trade, economy, human resources and other sectors, and pledged to further explore more opportunities to boost the cooperation between both nations,” Sophalleth said.

The two leaders also discussed the topic of COVID-19, a serious ongoing issue faced by both Cambodia and Singapore, as well as all countries in the region and the world.

Prime Minister Hun Sen encouraged both sides to further promote more cooperation, despite the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

“We must overcome this problem and continue to promote good relations between the two countries as well as the implementation of all agreements and memoranda signed in the past, in addition to many other cooperation in line with the potential that the country we both have,” the Premier said.

“We have to work hard, even if we have to carry out this work in the ‘new normal’ like today,” he said.

Ambassador Teo assumed her new posting to Cambodia on January 29, this year and presented her credentials to King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace on February 24.

Before being appointed to be her country’s representative in the Kingdom, Ambassador Teo previously served as Director of Strategic Communications at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has also held other appointments at the Ministry’s headquarters, covering Southeast Asia, Public Affairs and Asean.
