Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak has encouraged closer cooperation on trade and investment facilitation, trade barrier elimination, and digital technology use to restore trust of businesses and customers, amid this COVID-19 global crisis.

The minister made the comments while attending the Special AEM-METI Video Conference on COVID-19 Response on July 29 chaired by Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam with participation of the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) and the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as well as the ASEAN Secretary-General.

Mr Sorasak laid stress on the importance of connecting supply chains, cooperating on drug and vaccine researches, maintaining market openness, as well as ensuring the flow of food and goods in the region.

Taking the opportunity, the Minister informed the meeting about the effective measures and efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in the fight against COVID-19 and thanked Japan for helping Cambodia to combat COVID-19 through technical assistance and medical equipment donation.

The meeting exchanged views on the situation of COVID-19 in the region, shared measures to combat the pandemic and discussed economic recovery. As a result, the meeting adopted the ASEAN-Japan Economic Resilience Action Plan, comprised of 52 strategic measures aiming at sustaining the close economic ties developed by ASEAN and Japan; mitigating the adverse impact of COVID-19 on the economy; and strengthening economic resilience in response to the economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
