Under the Employment Permit System (EPS), the Republic of Korea provides 50 percent quota to Cambodian migrant workers to work in the country in the first semester of 2021.

The information was shared recently by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, adding that Cambodia has sent more than 3,404 workers to South Korea, most of them are employed in the industrial sector.

The total number of workers registered for jobs in 2021 was 22,697, including 16,261 in the industry, 5,778 workers in agriculture, and 658 in construction, continued the source.

Early last month, Cambodia and the Republic of Korea, guided by the 6th Employment Permit System (EPS), entered a memorandum of understanding for sending more Cambodian workers to South Korea.

The Employment Permit System between Cambodia and South Korea was initially signed on Nov. 20, 2006 under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Roh Moo-Hyun, former President of the Republic of Korea.

Since 2007, Cambodia has sent a total of 68,294 workers (14,255 women) to work in industrial, agricultural and construction sectors in South Korea.

Currently, there are approximately 45,462 Cambodian workers (10,183 females) working in the Republic of Korea. AKP
