Ministry warns of app phishing scam
The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Cybercrimes Department has warned the public over a phishing scam on the Telegram app which lures users to ‘make money fast’ by clicking a link.
Department director Lieutenant General Chea Pov said yesterday that a group of foreigners are behind the scam.
A department statement said the scammers lure victims to click on a link after posting a message: “Hi. I am earning from $100 to $150 on ‘myxfreelance.cc’. You need to log in via Telegram and do what is written on the site.”
The department said the link contained a TrojanHorse that stole information from users, including their identities and other particulars such as their bank account and credit card details.
The hackers instruct the victim to download a computer program for an additional $15 bonus through which their particulars are extracted.
Lt Gen Pov said: “In order to protect yourselves, please do not click on the link you receive, avoid downloading infected files and do not enter your credit or debit card details.”
He added more information about protection from the scam is available on the department’s Facebook page. Khmer Times
