Cambodia’s Peace Threatened by Border Conflict, Cambodian DPM
New York, September 27, 2025 – His Excellency Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, delivered a heartfelt address before the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, expressing grave concern that Cambodia’s hard-won peace is now under serious threat—not from internal strife, but from an ongoing border conflict with a neighboring country.
Speaking under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”, His Excellency underlined Cambodia’s deep anxiety over the current security situation.
“I must, with profound sorrow, inform this Assembly today that peace in my country—peace that was achieved through immense struggle and sacrifice—is now under threat,” he declared. “This danger does not arise from internal divisions as in the past, but rather from a border dispute with a neighboring state.”
His Excellency Prak Sokhonn further took the opportunity to extend Cambodia’s deep gratitude to U.S. President Donald J. Trump for mediating a ceasefire agreement that effectively halted armed clashes. Those hostilities had already caused tragic loss of life, numerous injuries, extensive destruction, and forced hundreds of thousands of civilians to flee their homes as refugees.
