Cambodia Announces to Vaccinate Children Aged 3 to 5 against COVID-19

Prime Minister Hun Sen has allowed the administration of COVID-19 vaccines for children aged from 3 to 5 years old.

In a special voice message shared yesterday, the Premier said that since the Omicron outbreak in Cambodia, about 20 to 25 percent of children have been infected with the virus, and even his 21st grandchild who is not yet two years old has also caught the disease.

“Therefore, it is necessary to vaccinate the children aged from 3 to 5 to protect them from Omicron. We have no other choice than vaccination,” he underlined.

According to the Prime Minister, there are an estimated 700,000 children in the said age group in Cambodia.

PM Hun Sen thus called on all parents and guardians to bring their children and grandchildren for the inoculation.

He also asked the Ministry of Health, the National Ad-hoc Commission for COVID-19 Vaccination, health departments and other relevant parties to conduct the vaccination campaign as soon as possible and with high safety.

Cambodia has been providing basic doses for the population aged from five years old as well as the booster doses (3rd and 4th) for those aged 18 and older. According to a report of the National Ad-hoc Commission for COVID-19 Vaccination, as of Feb. 17, 89.93 percent of the total population of 16 million have received the basis doses against the pandemic, while over 6 million have got the 3rd shot and some 730,000 the 4th jab.
