Phnom Penh, October 15, 2025 — The Spokesperson of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Chea Thirith, has firmly rejected recent remarks made by Mr. Surasan Kongsiri, Spokesperson of the Thai Ministry of Defence, who alleged that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, had asked Thailand to reopen the border on October 20.

The claim, published by The Nation newspaper on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, was dismissed by H.E. Chea Thirith as a distortion of facts and a deliberate misrepresentation intended to mislead both the Thai and international public.

“The position of Samdech Techo Hun Sen is clear and consistent: Cambodia will never beg Thailand to reopen the Cambodia–Thailand border,” the Senate Spokesperson stated. “Even if Thailand were to keep the border closed for another hundred years, Cambodia would not plead. Let Thailand act according to its own will.”

He added that the Thai Defence Ministry’s statement reflects an attempt to twist reality and misguide public perception in Thailand and beyond.

This clarification underscores Cambodia’s firm and self-reliant stance, as well as its unwavering commitment to sovereignty, dignity, and mutual respect in its relations with neighboring countries.
