Phnom Penh, October 5, 2025 — His Excellency Ly Thuch, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), clarified that the recently launched mine clearance project covering over 41 square kilometers along provinces adjacent to the Cambodia–Thailand border has no connection whatsoever with any request from the Thai side.

In a statement released on social media on the evening of October 5, 2025, H.E. Ly Thuch emphasized that the project, officially handed over by the CMAA—representing the Royal Government of Cambodia—to the Royal Cambodian Army, the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces (NPMEC), and CMAC on October 2, 2025, is being implemented in areas inhabited by Cambodian citizens. He underlined that the operation serves the interests of the Cambodian people and is conducted entirely within Cambodian villages, communes, and districts that are not located within or near the border dispute areas.

Deputy Prime Minister Ly Thuch further stressed that the mine clearance project has long been part of the Royal Government’s national mine action plan and bears no relation to any proposal from Thailand or to any contested border zones.

He reaffirmed that this project supports the vision of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, to provide safe land, restore livelihoods, and rebuild communities with dignity and hope—contributing to a better and more secure future for the Cambodian people.
