PM donates state-of-the-art water purifiers

Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday donated five water purifiers to public hospitals in Phnom Penh and the Cambodian Red Cross in a bid to provide free and clean water to those in need.

The handover ceremony was held at Calmette Hospital yesterday and presided over by Minister of Public Works Sun Chanthol and Calmette Hospital director Chheang Ra.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chanthol said the water purifier machines could each produce up to 800 liters of clean water daily by converting water vapor in the air to water. He added the purifiers can also be run by either electricity or solar power.

Chanthol said: “These purifiers can produce high-quality and safe drinking water while ensuring a positive environmental impact. With these purifiers installed, people from the hospitals will no longer have to purchase water and can utilize these machines instead, for free.”

Dr. Ra said currently, at least 7,000 people visit Calmette Hospital per day, all of whom can now take advantage of the free filtered water on offer thanks to Mr. Hun Sen.

“I think the 800 liters a day which the purifier can produce will be enough to service all visitors of Calmette Hospital. Aside from its health benefits, the purifier will also help clean the environment by reducing the need for plastic and other waste which people produce to facilitate the drinking of water,” said Dr. Ra.

Mr. Hun Sen said via his Facebook page that the water purifiers would be placed in Calmette Hospital, Kantha Bopha Hospital, Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital Preah Kosomak and Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, with one more being given to the Cambodian Red Cross.
