Anti-Cybercrime Department warns children over using TikTok
The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Cybercrime Department yesterday urged parents to monitor social media applications being used by their children to prevent any privacy abuse and other impacts.
The department’s warning particularly targeted TikTok, a lip-syncing video mobile application, which is popular among millions of users over the world including Cambodia.
“The Anti-Cybercrime Department would like to advise parents to be careful about the use of social media applications, especially TikTok. Please advise them not to use the applications too much and monitor their activities because it is a waste of time which affects study and can lead to other side effects,” said the statement on the department’s official Facebook page.
It said profiles of users are displayed in public which makes it easy for everyone, especially adult users, to contact underaged users which can be a serious threat to children. Additionally, some applications have not yet amended their privacy policy to protect children under 13 years old.
