Cellcard is Still the Kingdom’s Speediest Mobile Network
Locally-owned mobile operator Cellcard once again has been named as the fastest mobile network provider in the Kingdom.
The company was confirmed as Cambodia’s Speedtest Award Winner for mobile network speeds, based on analysis by U.S.-based Ookla – a global company that tests broadband performance – between July and December 2019.
According to the company’s report, Cellcard achieved an overall speed score of 14.92, with average download speeds of 16.31 Mbps and average upload speeds of 14.32 Mbps. Meanwhile, Smart placed second with two points less on 12.9 and Metfone was measured at 5.91 – more than 9 points below Cellcard.
Cellcard’s network is the fastest in a number of major cities, including Phnom Penh, Poi Pet and Srey Sisophon in Banteay Meanchey province.
“We have retained this title since beginning our ambitious journey three years ago,” said Cellcard CEO Ian Watson, referring to the company’s bold and ambitious charter to build Cambodia’s biggest, fastest and best quality 4G LTE network.
“We will continue to drive the digital agenda as we look to find new innovative ways to service our customers and enable their digital lifestyles today and tomorrow and beyond,” he added.
According to the Telecommunication Regulator Cambodia company, there are currently six mobile operators providing mobile services, seven mobile internet providers and 33 fixed internet providers offering worldwide web services in the country.
Mobile internet has reached 98 percent of total internet users in Cambodia, increasing 20 percent from 2018, while the total use of the internet has increased from 15 to 20 percent. Facebook now has 8.8 million registered accounts in Cambodia, compared with 6.8 million in 2018.
Cellcard hosted a government tour of its 5G site with the speed reaching an impressive 1.6 gigabytes per second. The demonstration reinforced Cellcard’s technical readiness and full commitment to rolling out the new technology throughout 2020.
Meanwhile, competitor companies Smart Axiata and Vietnam-run Metfone have also announced their own plans to roll out the latest 5G network.
