The Equinox Angkor at Angkor Wat, one of the most spectacular events attracting tourists from around the globe as well as local Cambodians, will take place between 21 and 23 March from 5:00 AM to 6:30 AM, as announced by the Ministry of Tourism this morning.

The Equinox Angkor event, which features the sunrise over the central tower of Angkor Wat Temple, showcases the unique characteristics of the Khmer ancestors, including meticulous design by Khmer architects, layout of the temple, land arrangement, astronomical calculations, and celestial considerations, all of which create a phenomenon that illuminates the centre of Angkor Wat Temple, according to the source.

During the Equinox event, thousands of tourists gather in front of the western entrance of Angkor Wat Temple, eager to witness and photograph the magnificent sunrise.

The Ministry of Tourism encouraged both national and international tourists, along with the general public, to participate in and capture this remarkable event, promoting Cambodian tourism for the benefit of the nation and its people under the banners: “Tourism For All, All for Tourism”, “Tourism Grows in Peace”, and “Each Person is an Ambassador for Tourism”.

The equinox is a time when day and night are approximately equal in length; unlike in other months, when night is longer than day or vice versa, which occurs globally.

This special sunrise event takes place twice a year, in March (Spring or Vernal Equinox) and in September (Autumn Equinox). AKP
