CMAC experts remove anti-tank mines in Battambang
CMAC experts have removed eight anti-tank mines from a former Khmer Rouge-stronghold in Battambang province’s Kors Kralor district.
Lieutenant Colonel Nuon Sameth, district deputy police chief, told Khmer Times on Friday that the eight anti-tank mines were found in Chhnal commune on Thursday morning in four pits, each containing two overlapping anti-tank mines.
He said the UXOs have been taken to a demining site to be destroyed.
CMAC director general Heng Ratana said the operation was supported by the UNDP Assistance Project through the CMAA-UNDP Clearing for Results project.
He added that according to CMAC’s estimation, there are still a lot of anti-tank mines and landmines in the area of Samrong village in Chhnal Mann commune because the area was a major frontline during the 1980s civil war. Khmer Times
