Nine-grade national examinations began today amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with some students saying they have low expectations about their good scores.

Cheok Rithisak, a student at Tuol Tompoung High School, said it is difficult for him to focus on this year’s exams because he is scared of the virus infection.

He said that he failed to study hard while some of his friends were unable to sit in the exams.

“This year’s exams I’m really worried about my results and the most worrying is the COVID-19 transmission in the community”, Rithisak said.

One of the students’ parents, Sim Neang, said that she was worried that the exams could exacerbate a transmission of COVID-19 in the community.

“I’m very worried about my son’s exams this year. Because of COVID-19 issue my son’s study was not 100 percent complete,” she said.

A total of 158,717 students today are taking national exams which are due to end tomorrow.

The Ministry of Education issued an urgent directive today to end the 2019-2020 school year for public schools by November 30. Khmer Times
