The government has ordered gyms and fitness centers across the country to be shuttered to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made by Mr. Hang Choun Naron, Minister for Education, Youth, and Sport, in a letter addressed to all governors in Phnom Penh and received by Khmer Times this morning.

“In order to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport would like to ask all fitness club businesses across the country to halt their operation temporarily, from today until the spread is stopped,” Mr. Naron said.

This is the latest move of the government to contain COVID-19, which by today has seen 114 cases in the kingdom. Since the discovery of the first COVID-19 case in the Kingdom in early March, the government has also ordered the temporary shutting of schools, nightclubs, cinemas, and casinos, while citizens have been urged to avoid gathering together in public.
