Domestic tourism gets $100 million cash injection and a life line
Domestic tourist movement during the recent five-day holiday of Khmer New Year break compensation has injected at estimated $100 million into the tourism sector.
The figure was released in a meeting to review domestic tourist activities during the five-day holiday, under the chairmanship of Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism.
Siem Reap cultural province, home to the famous Angkor Archeological Park, attracted the most visitors during the Khmer New Year break compensation from Aug. 17 to 21.
According to a report of the Ministry of Tourism, some 1,459,386 tourists – 1,445,238 national and 14,148 international – toured the country in the past five days, of them 214,047 visited Siem Reap province.
Kampot, Kep, Battambang, and Preah Sihanouk followed Siem Reap as the most visited provinces with 180,754, 146,383, 133,349, and 116,346 visitors respectively.
The estimated figure was generated from 1.45 million domestic tourists who toured the country from Aug. 17 to 21.
