The Ministry of Education has selected Bak Touk High School as the first state school to re-open on September 7.

Today, the ministry of Education, held a meeting to discuss the possibility of re-opening for the 9th and 12th grades. The meeting was chaired by a ministry Secretary of State, Nath Bunroeun, ministry officials, and the management and teachers of the Bak Touk High School.

According to the ministry, the school was chosen due to its large number of 12th grade students across the country.

The ministry has said that the re-opening plans are focused on classroom learning, and distance learning using technology. Class sizes have been reduced to between 15 and 20 students, and hygiene measures have been implemented according to the Ministry of Health guidelines.

Bunroeun, also encouraged the use of technology and distance learning in education during the COVID-19 crisis to prevent the spread of the virus, and to keep the school up-to-date with technological advances.

Principal of Bak Touk High School, Toch Kantal, told Khmer Times today that the building layout, the teachers, and the number of students were all reasons why it was chosen as the first state school to re-open.

Kantal said there are more than 1,000 Grade 12 students in 52 classes, and 635 Grade 9 students in 32 classes. He added that the school is preparing a new schedule to cater to the smaller class sizes. Khmer Times
