Cambodian and JICA Sign $32 Million Clean Water Project for Ta Khmau City Cambodian and JICA Sign $32 Million Clean Water Project for Ta Khmau City

The Cambodian government and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a grant agreement to expand the water supply system in Ta Khmau City, at a total cost of $32 million.

The agreement was signed yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth, and Chief Representative of JICA Cambodia, Mr Sugano Yuichi.

The project aims to improve the access to safe water in Ta Khmau City through the construction of a new water supply facility that has a treatment capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day and is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

The water treatment machines will take raw water from the local river to be processed through the SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) that monitors the water – JICA states this system is “crucial” to ensure clean water is supplied to Ta Khmau City.

This new agreement will be in addition to an exchange note singed on March 24 earlier this year between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, which initiated the project.
