The Ministry of Health and relevant institutions have committed to preventing virus transmission among communities as the number of confirmed cases soared to 35 as of this morning.

The commitment was made on Mar. 18 by H.E. Ly Sovann, the Director of Communicable Disease Control Department and a Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health.

Until this morning there was no sign of community transmission yet, but there is a possibility because a group of Cambodian Muslims, who had returned from a religious event in Malaysia, attended different religious gatherings in their respective communities, and traveled from one place to another, he explained.

“With this possibility, our expert officials will try their utmost to prevent it (virus transmission) by following this case around the clock,” he added.

The spokesperson took the opportunity to encourage people to call 115 for any question related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the 35 confirmed cases, there are 22 Cambodians, 3 British, 2 French, a Canadian, a Belgian, 5 Malaysians, and a Chinese who has already recovered.
