Covid-19-Infected Cambodian Man’s Family Members Tested Negative

The three family members of the Covid-19-infected Cambodian man have been tested negative for the deadly virus.

“We got the result of the tests on the three family members who had direct contact with the Cambodian man, 38, with confirmed Covid-19 infection, at around 2:00 this afternoon. All tests came back negative,” H.E. Ms. Or Vandine, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, told AKP.

The Cambodian man was confirmed positive yesterday after having had direct contact with a Japanese man who was tested positive for Covid-19 after departing from Siem Reap province to Japan’s Nagoya, with a transit in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

The infected Cambodian man is currently put under quarantine at Siem Reap referral hospital while the other three persons – a man and two women – who also had direct contact with the Japanese man, were tested negative, according to H.E. Mam Bunheng, Minister of Health.

The Ministry of Health will have the specimens of all people having direct or indirect contact with the Japanese man tested at the Pasteur Institute Cambodia, underlined H.E. Minister at a press conference on Mar. 7 evening.

All schools in Siem Reap provincial city were ordered to close for 14 days to prevent the spread of Covid-19. According to Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Tea Seiha, altogether, 110 public and private schools, from kindergarten to tertiary level, have closed temporarily from now on.

Meanwhile, the​ Angkor Sankranta, scheduled to be held on the occasion of Khmer Traditional New in mid-April, will also be postponed.

While reaffirming its closed cooperation with the World Health Organisation, the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (US-CDC), and the Pasteur Institute Cambodia, the Ministry of Health called on the public not to get panic, but to apply self-hygiene and eat well-cooked meat.

Those who travelled to and from the Covid-19-affected countries are appealed to pay high attention to their health and to go to the nearest hospital if any suspicious symptom appears.

The Ministry of Health will keep the public updated on Covid-19 on the official websites or Facebook pages of the ministry, or the Department of Communicable Disease Control.

The Cambodian man is the second case of Covid-19 recorded in Cambodia, after a 60-year-old Chinese man, who was tested positive in late January, has fully recovered a few weeks later and returned to his home country.
