Prime Minister Hun Sen today asked the Ministry of Health to consider and prepare for giving treatment to COVID-19 patients with mild symptom at their homes, as the number of cases linked to the February 20 Community Event keeps increasing every day.

The premier made this remark in a voice message, in which he added the purpose for doing so is to prevent treatment facilities from overcrowding.

“Now we need to forecast the sustainability of our hospitals. If the cases do not decrease, our hospital will be overflowing with patients, with both mild and severe symptoms,” Mr Hun Sen said.

“So we have to make arrangements by taking the approach of countries with a large number of patients, including the United States, France, Europe and some countries where the number of patients exceed the capability of the treatment facilities.”

The premier also requested that Health Ministry and relevant authorities to establish a code of conduct for home treatment for a future use, given that there have been more new patients than those who have recovered. He also recommended that home treatment should be provided to those who have “big houses” while those who live in small houses where there is a high risk of the spreading the virus to the other should be taken to the hospitals despite only having wild symptoms.

“Even though we have set up a few more hospitals, it is not enough, so the solution is to treat the patients who have wild symptoms at home, but there must be a clear diagnosis,” he said. Khmer Times
