The Cambodian People’s Party issued a statement today supporting the announcement by the World Health Organization which considered COVID-19 as an emergency and international concerns needed to tackle seriously.

According to the statement issued by the CPP, it adhered to the humanitarian principle by Prime Minister Hun Sen in fighting COVID-19 virus and firmly supported the measure taken by the Chinese government.

“The CPP always supports the Communist Party of China, its leaders and the people of China, including all patients, especially doctors in fighting this disease,” it said.

“Only Cambodia allowed MS Westerdam to dock at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on February 13 and no passengers have been infected with [COVID-19],” it said.

Kheang Phearom, the spokesman for Preah Sihanouk provincial hall, said that MS Westerdam cruise ship is due to leave Cambodia tonight.

“The ship is going to leave tonight for the international sea and wait for the instruction by Philippines authorities,” he said.

The vessel, which departed from Hong Kong on February 1 for a 14-day cruise across Taiwan and Japan water, had 1,455 guests and 802 crew members on board. Following fear of a COVID-19 outbreak, it was turned away by Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Guam, and the Philippines.
