BREAKING: Cambodia Warns of Imminent Thai Military Incursion, Calls on International Community to Intervene

Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued an urgent public statement warning of a potential Thai military offensive along the shared border, characterizing the reported actions as a grave violation of Cambodian territorial integrity and a serious breach of the recently established ceasefire agreement.
According to information received at 10:49 a.m. on August 3, 2025, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence has learned that the Thai armed forces, in coordination with local Thai authorities, have ordered the evacuation of Thai civilians remaining in the border area of Surin Province by the end of the day. The same source further indicated that the Thai military is allegedly preparing to launch a coordinated assault along the border regions stretching from the areas surrounding Ta Moan Temple, Ta Krabei Temple, and Preah Vihear Temple, extending to An Ses.
The Cambodian Ministry has expressed deep concern that such military preparations appear to be scheduled to take place ahead of the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, set for August 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If verified, the Ministry views this planned aggression as a deliberate and severe violation of Cambodian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a direct infringement upon the ceasefire agreement reached between both countries on July 28, 2025, during a high-level meeting in Kuala Lumpur. That agreement was witnessed and supported by Malaysia, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China.
In response to these developments, Cambodia has issued a strong appeal to the international community to take immediate action to prevent any further escalation. The Ministry called on global partners to urge the Thai side to immediately cease any planned military operations and to uphold the ceasefire agreement with full respect and responsibility.
“Cambodia urges the international community to help prevent further escalation,” the statement read. “Should these reports prove to be accurate, we call upon the Thai side to halt its planned incursion and fully honor the ceasefire commitments in order to maintain peace and stability along the border and throughout the broader region.”
The Cambodian government reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful resolution through dialogue and international cooperation, and emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability in accordance with international law and bilateral agreements.
