Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha co-chaired a conference in Hanoi on February 19 to review the cooperation between their two ministries in 2024 and launch their collaborative plan 2025.

Reflecting on their partnership over the past year, both parties highlighted their regular exchanges of information on international and regional matters of mutual interest. They also emphasised their coordination in ensuring the security and safety of significant political events and high-level visits in both countries, as well as the successful organisation of the inaugural annual conference of the Ministers of Public Security and Interior of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam in March 2024 in Da Nang.

The two sides worked effectively to manage and resolve border-related issues, which helped protect achievements and promote demarcation and marker planting efforts along the Vietnam-Cambodia land border.

As the crime situation along the Vietnam-Cambodia border continues to change—especially concerning drug trafficking, human trafficking, and online fraud—the two sides proactively proposed programmes and plans for cooperation in combating transnational crime. They strengthened the exchange of information, situational updates, and results on crime prevention via hotlines while also maintaining and enhancing the effectiveness of the two countries’ Border Liaison Offices (BLOs).

Their collaboration on tracking internationally wanted persons through diplomatic channels, INTERPOL, ASEANAPOL, and the police of border provinces also yielded significant outcomes.

Looking ahead to their cooperation in 2025, both parties agreed to intensify efforts to combat all forms of crime, particularly transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime.

They will focus on cracking down on online fraud and online gambling rings while continuing to closely coordinate and support one another within multilateral frameworks aimed at preventing and combating transnational crime.

At the conclusion of the conference, Quang and Sokha signed the 2025 cooperation plan between the two ministries. VNA
