Vietnam recorded 100,150 tourist arrivals from Cambodia in January, accounting for 4.8 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This represents a sharp 64.2 percent increase from December and an impressive 168.6 percent rise year-on-year.

Tourism between Cambodia and Vietnam has grown steadily over the years, fuelled by historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two neighbouring countries. Both nations share deep-rooted connections, featuring similar cultural practices, linguistic influences, and a rich shared history, making travel between them appealing to tourists.

The increasing availability of transport options, including bus routes, flights, and border crossings, has further facilitated tourism between the two countries.

Vietnam and Cambodia are both major tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, each offering unique attractions. For Vietnamese tourists, Cambodia’s iconic sites like the Angkor Wat temple complex, Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace, and the scenic landscapes of the Mekong Delta are key attractions. Similarly, many Cambodian tourists visit Vietnam to explore cultural and natural sites such as Ha Long Bay, Hue’s ancient citadel, and the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The flow of tourism is bolstered by increasingly strong diplomatic and trade relations, which have resulted in the easing of visa policies and enhanced connectivity through air travel. Vietnamese and Cambodian airlines have expanded flight services, while the overland routes linking both countries are popular among tourists seeking an adventurous and more economical travel experience.

In addition to leisure tourism, the exchange of tourists for business, cultural events, and educational purposes has also increased. Over the years, both governments have worked to enhance cooperation in tourism promotion and the development of infrastructure to better accommodate the needs of travellers from both countries.

The tourism sector between Cambodia and Vietnam is expected to continue expanding, benefiting from the growing middle class in both nations, improved transport links, and a focus on cultural exchange and regional tourism development.
