APSARA National Authority and Total Energies company plant more trees in Angkor site
Total Energies company, in collaboration with the APSARA National Authority, plant more than 10,000 trees in front of the Banteay Prey temple of the Angkor site on 26 March 2022, to maintain the cultural landscape, to create a green cover for the environment in the Angkor area, to create wildlife sanctuaries and preserve the temples.
The tree-planting ceremony is presided by H.E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, President of the Board of APSARA National Authority, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Jacques PELLET, French Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Mr. Prak Sophoan, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap, and Ms. Dinah KUMAR, Managing Director of Total Energies company in Cambodia, monks, and officials-staff in total about 200 participants.
“The Angkor site has been the heritage of Khmer ancestors for generations, the temple, and forestry have always been with people,” H.E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona said at the tree planting ceremony. Community, forestry, and water are what we do today as part of preserving our cultural heritage.
She added said that not only in the temples, even in the pagodas, the monks always advise the Buddhists to plant trees because the trees provide many benefits to people.
Today in the Angkor area, in addition to protect the temples, planting saplings is even more important to the environment, which contributes to achieving the “zero-carbon” policy, while the world is experiencing climate change.
She also thanks and appreciates the Total Energies company, which has cooperated with the APSARA National Authority to plant trees to make the Angkor site more beautiful for the next generation.
Noted that Total Energies company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the APSARA National Authority on the project to plant and maintain trees (Angkor TotalEnergy Park) for 5 years (2021-2026).
