The Japanese government has agreed to provide US$1,799,166 in total under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects to promote community development in Cambodia through cluster munition, landmine and UXO clearance.

According to a press release of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia issued on Feb. 23, the recipient organisation is Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS).

Some of US$900,787 will be used for the ‘Project for Reconstruction Support with Cluster Munitions Disposal in Stung Treng (Year 2)’ and US$898,379 for the ‘Project for Reconstruction Support with Demining in Banteay Meanchey (Year 2)’, it pointed out.

Ambassador of Japan H.E. MIKAMI Masahiro signed the contract with JMAS representative, and expressed his gratitude for the organisation to take part in the initiatives of the Government of Japan.

Although large-scale ODA projects such as improvement of Sihanoukville Port, National Road No. 5, and yen loan COVID-19 crisis response are often covered in media, the Government of Japan considers the work with Japanese NGOs and Cambodian local governments is equally important in terms of contribution to the improvement of the quality of people’s lives in each project area, underlined H.E. Ambassador. AKP
