The Government of Japan will provide ten waste collection trucks worth in total $245,215 to ten provinces of Cambodia, under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE” Grant).

The Grant Contract was signed here on Dec. 21 between Cambodian Minister of Environment Say Samal and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Mikami Masahiro.

According to a press release of the Embassy of Japan, the assistance will contribute to protecting the public health and the natural environment, which will improve the quality of life for over 530,000 residents in the ten targeted areas.

Japan’s “KUSANONE” Projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable due to various factors such as poverty and/or misfortunes that directly threaten their lives, livelihood, and dignity, as well as to promote self-reliance of local communities.

Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over $64 million for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organisations to implement 650 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia. C. Nika – AKP/Khmer Times
