Senior officials on Friday came to inspect the riverbank protection projects in Kandal province and concluded that the projects were officially finished and riverbanks in those areas are safe from landslides.

The inspection was led by the Tonle Sap Authority with relevant officials and local authorities.

They inspected two projects, first, the 500-metre-long Bassac Riverbank Protection Project located in Kbal Koh Touch village and Kandal village in Sa’ang district’s Talon commune. Geotextile bags were installed to protect the lower part of the riverbank over six months.

The second project is the 1,500-metre-long Mekong Riverbank Protection Project located in Khsom village in Kien Svay district’s Banteay Dek commune also using geotextile Bags.

According to the Water Resources Ministry, the working group evaluated that the projects to protect the two riverbanks are technically correct and of good quality, which ensures the protection of National Road 1 and National Road 21 from landslides in the area. Khmer Times
