Cambodia Welcomes Foreign Infrastructure Development
Cambodia is seeking funds to develop its infrastructure, as it outlines that some roads and bridges are in need of improvement to contribute to economic growth.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar bridge yesterday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia welcomes all funds from partner countries to help develop infrastructure in the country.
He said the new achievements of roads and bridges in Cambodia were backed by concessional loans and grants from China, Japan, and South Korea.
Funds from other countries are welcomed to Cambodia, he said, referring to countries in the West.
The remarks illustrate that Cambodia is not solely dependent on one country for infrastructure development projects.
The Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar Bridge was built under the cooperation framework between Cambodia and China and is in the strategy of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Mr Hun Sen said.
“We do not deny any other programs, such as the Build Back Better plan,” he said. “We would like to send a welcome message.”
The Build Back Better Plan or Build Back Better agenda is a legislation plan proposed by US President Joe Biden ahead of his inauguration.
Cambodia will need approximately $48 billion to implement 330 projects in the transportation and public works sectors over the next 10 years, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
The Cambodian government has encouraged US companies to bid on infrastructure projects and build quality physical infrastructure in Cambodia.
