Cambodia Nearly Reaches The Target of 10M People to Be Vaccinated against COVID-19 Cambodia Nearly Reaches The Target of 10M People to Be Vaccinated against COVID-19

It is coming to almost seven months, three days short since the campaign to vaccinate 10 million adults against COVID-19 started on February 10 Cambodia’s speedy vaccination process has slowly become sluggish.

To date, up to September 7, the number of adults aged 18 and above who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine stands at 9,637563, more than 320,000 short of the magical number of 10 million targeted initially by the Cambodian government.

Overall however, it is much closer to achieve the 12 million target if adolescents are thrown into the equation as with this age group of between 12 and 17, a total of 11,328,393 have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the all important vaccine.

This leaves a figure of more than 670,000 left to be vaccinated to reach the 12 million people vaccinated mark, including adolescents out of the 16 million population.

Cambodia has seen its administering of the second dose of the vaccine also falter as the number of 8,470,548 who have been fully vaccinated leaves a gap of close to 1.2 million adults aged 18 and above who have yet to get themselves fully vaccinated with a second dose.

Smaller campaigns to administer a third booster dose of the vaccine targeted age groups is also in progress with smaller numbers receiving the booster doses daily.

To date, 696,229 have received the booster dose and the campaign to get journalists the added protection kicks of today.

Overall, a total of 96.37 percent of the targeted 10 million adults have been vaccinated with at least one dose while adolescents who have received at least one dose of the vaccine stands at 85.97 percent.

The percentage of people for the entire population who have been vaccinated with at least one dose now stands at 70.80 percent, leaving approximately 10 percent more to be vaccinated to get the herd immunity to kick in, along with those who have already been infected and have built up their antibodies after the affliction.
