The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation awarded “Cambodian Quality Product” labels last week to seven local enterprises in recognition of their products’ quality and safety.

Among those awarded were Lyly Food Industry and Leang Leng, a leading foodsauce enterprise.

The ministry notes that products labelled with the “Cambodian Quality Product” logo gain trust from customers, which in turn boosts demand, sparking a need for production increases.

“When owners of enterprises and handicrafts receive Cambodian Quality Product recognition, those products will gain more support and trust from consumers, ensuring quality, safety and hygiene,” it said.

In February the ministry called for factories, enterprises and cottage industries to apply for Cambodian Quality Products logo designation to confirm their quality and safety.

The label promotes domestic products effectively by making them consistent with nationally recognised standards, which builds confidence among consumers.

Business owners wishing to pursue logo designation can seek a certificate of conformity for their products at the Institute of Standards, as per the Law on Standards of Cambodia, and a weight and measurement certificate from the National Metrology Centre.

Keo Mom, the chief executive officer of Lyly Food Industry, said the labels are important in promoting products and competition in the market.

“When we have a label of quality, our sales are wider,” she said.

The ministry added 20 more standards to the national list last week. That hike brought the number of standards listed to 988.

“The adoption of these standard is very important… if our [goods] do not have our product standards, we will not be able to sell or export in a highly competitive manner,” said Cham Prasidh, minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation at the meeting held on Saturday. Khmer Times
