APSARA National Authority plans to consolidate the platform of Bakan tower at Angkor Wat

Department of Conservation of Monuments in Angkor Park and Preventive Archaeologyof the APSARA Authority is preparing to implement the project to consolidate the platform of Bakan tower at Angkor Wat, by holding a traditional ceremony to pray for safety and success on 24 August.

Mr. Mao Sokny, head of the project of the Department of Conservation of Monuments in Angkor Park and Preventive Archaeology , said that the project would run for five years with the aim of consolidating the platform of Bakan tower after the stones separated. Sokny added: “We are studying the shape of stones in order to divide them into the right category, so it is easy when we put the stones back together.”

According to the project manager, the condition of the platform of Bakan tower at Angkor Wat temple has been partially torn down and the team will prepare to get the stones back to their original position. Mr. Mao Sokny stated that the restoration project will not affect the visit, because it will be divided into phases.
