Prime Minister Hun Sen has appealed to his compatriots, particularly the armed forces and civil servants to get vaccinated against COVID-19 pandemic.

“Vaccine is not a poison, but part of the protection of ourselves, our institutions and our national society as well as our job,” stressed the Premier. “Vaccine is not a commodity easily found on the market or at pharmacy, so when there is an opportunity [to get vaccinated], please take it.”

According to PM Hun Sen, there are two types of persons: those who want to get vaccinated as soon as possible which is an encouragement, and those who avoid vaccination.

Vaccine will become an obligation, not on a voluntary basis anymore, he continued, adding that COVID-19 vaccination will be a requirement for new recruitment and those without vaccination, except those who cannot be vaccinated due to health problems acknowledged by medical team, will not be allowed to enter a ministry or institution or join a meeting as others will be afraid of them.

“Vaccination avoidance does not only destroy their own lives, but also contributes to destroying other lives in their workplace,” he said.

PM Hun Sen requested all ministers and municipal and provincial governors to assess how many civil servants have already been and have not yet been vaccinated.

“I don’t mean to discriminate, but I want all to contribute to preventing COVID-19. Our discrimination is only against the pandemic because those who are not vaccinated are vulnerable to COVID-19,” he explained.

According to the Prime Minister, almost 100 percent of the military have gotten their first doses of COVID-19 vaccine, while about 80 percent already received their second doses.
