Cambodia’s gross revenue from rice exports in the first two months of this year declined by 44.16 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

The figure from the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) shows that the Kingdom earned US$64.53 million from the exports of 76,222 tonnes of milled rice exports.

Cambodia exported a total of 34,273 tonnes and 41,949 tonnes of milled rice in January and February, respectively.

China remains the biggest market of Cambodia’s milled rice export absorbing 37,630 tonnes or 49.37 percent of the products, followed by 18 countries in Europe with 18,996 or 24.91 percent, and two countries in ASEAN with 6,229 tonnes or 8 percent.

According to CRF, fragrant rice contributes to about 85 percent of the overall exports which also include premium fragrant rice, Sen Kra Ob, Jasmine rice, Romduol, and so on.

CRF explained the decrease in rice exports by the lack of containers and continued increase of the cost of shipping, up to almost 500 percent of the shipping cost in 2019.
