Australia has appreciated Cambodia’s progress in social affair services, especially in supporting people with disabilities.

The appreciation was made by Ms. Sarah Wadley, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Cambodia during her meeting with Mr. Em Chan Makara, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Secretary General of the Disability Action Council (DAC) at the ministry yesterday.

Ms. Sarah Wadley affirmed the Government of Australia’s stand in resuming its project to support the rights of people with disabilities in Cambodia for 2021-2023, adding that Australian Human Rights Committee will also continue supporting Cambodia in drafting a new law on the work.

She recalled that Australia has committed an amount of US$27 million for the Royal Government of Cambodia to procure COVID-19 vaccine.

Mr. Em Chan Makara thanked the Embassy of Australia for its support through the ACCESS project to help people with disabilities.

The secretary of State also spoke highly of the Australian Human Rights Committee and Disability Inclusive Development Helpdesk (DID) for providing inputs to compile Cambodia’s new draft law on disability well in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Those inputs will help substantiate the law, which is beneficial for Cambodian people with disabilities, he added.
