Inter-ministry committee announced for new Mondulkiri airport
The Cambodian government has formed a new inter-ministry committee to lead and facilitate the construction of a domestic airport in Mondulkiri province.
The sub-decree was signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen and issued on Feb 12. The committee will be chaired by Mao Havannal, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation with members from the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, as well as local authorities from Mondulkiri province.
The committee has been mandated to lead, coordinate and drive the project, which will be provisionally invested in by the Powerchina International Group on a build-operate-transfer basis. The committee will be charged with the formalisation of the agreement with the Powerchina International Group according to the sub-decree.
The committee has been authorised to provide recommendations on any project studies, to assess the progress of the project and continue executing all its tasks and responsibilities until the new airport is complete.
Its formation comes as the first feasibility study conducted by SSCA is about to conclude. The SSCA began its study in August 2020.
Sin Chansereyvutha, SSCA’s spokesman, said the results of the study will be handed to the committe for review. Following that, it will then be submitted to the Powerchina International Group. Khmer Times
