Cambodia to receive 1.3 million doses of C-19 vaccine from COVAX in Q1 and Q2 of 2021

The World Health Organization has forecasted that Cambodia is forecasted to receive nearly 1.3 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine licensed to Serum Institute of India, also known as Covishield, in the first half of this year through COVAX initiative.

According to the first interim distribution forecast published by COVAX on Wednesday, the UN health agency will provide 1,296,000 doses of Covishield to Cambodia in the first and second quarter of 2021, although this vaccine’s process of approval for for World Health Organisation Emergency Use Listing Emergency Use Listing Procedure (WHO EUL ) is still underway.

“Pending these final decisions, and based on current estimates of supply, the COVAX Facility has provided an indicative distribution for each Facility participant, covering Q1 and Q2 2021,” WHO said in the forecast.

It has been estimated that delivery is estimated to begin as of late February but still subject to WHO EUL, manufacturing supply capacity and completion of pre-requisites.

“Indicative distribution doses specify contracted number of doses for Q1 + Q2 (first half – H1) supply, with 35-40% available in Q1 and 60-65% available in Q2,” WHO said.

WHO added that it is sharing the interim distribution to assist the government in planning their national vaccination programmes while the final allocation “will be published in due course”.

According to Prime Minister Hun Sen, COVAX facility will provide seven million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, among the 20 million doses the Kingdom needs to inoculate 10 million of its total population.
