The National Institute of Post, Telecommunications and Information Communications Technology (NIPTICT) and Bosch (Cambodia), a local subsidiary of the Bosch Group, Germany’s leading electronics and engineering company, signed a memorandum of understanding this week to develop a Digital Makerspace at the institution.

NIPTICT and Bosch (Cambodia) will cooperate with ArrowDot as NIPTICT’s partner in the development of the Digital Makerspace in the Innovation Centre. ArrowDot will provide the technical digital training on BOSCH’s power tools for researchers, professors and technical assistants as well as cooperate in the development of human resources.

Seng Sopheap, president of NIPTICT, said the MoU is significant for the institute because it will open the way for their students, professors, and researchers to gain new experiences with equipment and new technological tools from Bosch.

“Digital Makerspace will provide young startups with a space and the equipment to support their creativity and innovation in digital and technology with access to 3D printer and prototyping tools, among others,” Sopheap said.

The country head of Robert Bosch, the Bosch Group’s representative in Cambodia, Hay Phirum, noted that besides vowing to develop new technology in Cambodia to boost the quality of life in the Kingdom, Bosch’s main mission is to contribute and boost the development of human resources.

“The collaboration with NIPTICT and ArrowDot, is an important step in working together to help train professionals in technology and help prepare Cambodian human resources for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he added.

NIPTICT is the first public higher education institution specialising in telecoms and e-commerce in Cambodia. It was established by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. NIPTICT offers undergraduate and advanced degree programmes in e-commerce, and bachelors’ degrees in telecommunications and networking, science and computer science. Khmer Times
