The two-way trade between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand was valued at US$7,236 million last year, a year-on-year decrease of 23 percent, according to figures from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce.

From January to December, Cambodia exported US$1,148 million worth of products to Thailand, down 49 percent compared to a year before.

Meanwhile, Cambodia imported US$6,089 million worth of products from Thailand, a decrease of 14.8 percent. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, said recently that during this COVID-19 crisis, trade between the two countries has been strained as border crossings have been tightened, making it difficult for the flow of goods between the two countries.

But Cambodia’s investment potential still remains for Thai investors and businesses, he underlined.

In terms of investment, even though the world has been being affected by COVID-19, Thai companies in Cambodia have continued their normal production chains, he said, adding that many Thai companies and businesses have sought investment opportunities in Cambodia.

The Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand has unveiled recently that it will establish a representative office for the Cambodia Business Council in Bangkok to serve as a one-stop shop for business and trade between both nations.

In 2015, the two governments agreed to triple the two-way trade amount from US$5 billion recorded in that year to US$15 billion by 2020.
