Among the 10 ASEAN member states, Cambodia is presently ranked second in dispatching women to join the UN peacekeeping operations and 17th out of 120 countries on women participation.

The information was proudly shared by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn while presiding over the High-Level Symposium on “The Future We Want, the Role of Multilateralism in a Post-COVID World”, organised here this morning by the National Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (NIDIR) in partnership with Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia.

Since 2006, he pointed out, Cambodia has deployed 7,123 peacekeepers to partake in the UN peacekeeping operations in nine-war-torn countries, mainly in the African continents. Of them, 419 Cambodian women have been involved in UN peacekeeping missions.

“Our women peacekeepers have served as medical and security personnel, civil engineers, and mine clearance experts,” underlined the Cambodian top diplomat.
