Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, has encouraged farmers to consider raising frogs as the market demand for the baby frogs is increasing.

The minister gave the advice when visiting Siem Reap province with . Ms. Carmen Moreno, EU Ambassador to Cambodia and representatives from AFD, FAO and UNIDO, to evaluate the progress of the implementation of CaPFish-Capture and CaPFish Aquaculture in the province early this week.

Mr Sakhon congratulated the success of Mr. Kong Kimchhav, the owner of frog farm at Kantraing commune, Bakong district, on his business and encouraged him to share the experience with other farmers.

Frog market price is currently between 50,000 to 60,000 Riel, about US$10.25 to about US$15 a pair.

CaPFish-Capture and CaPFish Aquaculture are programmes carried out under the EU’s financing support worth 87 million Euros.

The six-year programmes aim to achieve sustainable development, make resistant to climate change as well as to promote Cambodia’s inclusive aquaculture to ensure food security and socio-economic development in accordance with the government’s strategic plan for fisheries development.

The programmes are being implemented in ten provinces including Pursat, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Chhnang, Kandal, Prey Veng, and Takeo. Lim Nary – AKP
