Metfone and ministry to implement SIS in 150 schools
The Minister of Education yesterday announced that they will begin to deploy School Information Systems (SIS) in 150 high schools.
Minister Hang Chuon Naron said yesterday that Metfone is the only carrier to implement the project for the ministry.
Naron said the ministry has also established a committee to manage and deploy the SIS system in schools since the ministry and Metfone aim to implement it in 3,000 nationwide.
He said that the committee includes himself, Metfone’s board of directors, and senior personnel from both parties.
SIS is Metfone’s creation for the education sector and has been piloted at high schools in Kandal and Siem Reap provinces. SIS allows teachers to view and enter student’s attendance, mark students’ work in their own electronic profiles, manage timetables, enter exam results, manage classrooms, view and verify profiles and send and receive notifications to students and their parents.
It will also allow students and their parents to check attendance, timetable, fee details and exam dates. Parents will be able to view their children’s profiles anytime, receive notifications from teachers and send requirements to the school. All will be executed online by smartphone or computer.
“This is the next step after the ministry and Metfone began cooperating by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on 25th March to deploy a digital education system and e-Government solutions at the ministry and in schools,” Naron said.
“After the success of SIS pilots in two schools, the ministry acknowledges the importance of this project in digitalising the education sector and improving ICT knowledge and skills for the Kingdom’s students. The ministry has given the green light to Metfone to expand SIS to other schools, as well as setting up a committee to manage, deploy and monitor the efficiency of the system when deploying it nationwide,” Naron added.
“We are deploying SIS to 150 schools this year and will expand to more than 3,000 schools next year. Together with Metfone, we expect to strengthen the education sector and successfully implement this project,” Chuon Naron said.
Metfone CEO Phung Van Cuong thanked the Ministry of Education for choosing Metfone as their partner for this project. “It’s a great honour that the minister and ministry have chosen Metfone as the only partner to implement the SIS system in schools,” he added.
“We are committed to doing our best to finish the project on time and bring the advantages of this excellent system to all students and teachers as soon as possible,” Van Cuong said.
“Metfone will continuously integrate the platforms of e-learning, e-libraries and digital books to carry out a comprehensive digital transformation. Metfone has been cooperating with the Department of Information Technology to implement this core system in the education sector,” said Van Cuong.
