The Royal Academy of Cambodia plans to conserve and develop the Techo Sen Russey Treb Park into a cultural and historical tourism centre.

Academy president Sok Touch broke the news on Tuesday during a tree-planting ceremony at the park.

“We want this park to become an iconic destination that includes historical and natural tourism, forest preservation, and a natural environment for all types of animals,” Touch said, adding that it is expected to be a hub for vocational training.

Touch told Kampong Speu and Preah Vihear officials and 250 graduate students that the Royal Academy of Cambodia is not only an educational research institution.

“The Royal Academy of Cambodia connects theories with actual practice to achieve professional results,” he said.

He said the government and citizens must work together to prevent destroying natural forests.

“If we destroy the forests now, we will not reap the long-term benefits. We will get such benefits only if we participate in protecting natural forests,” he said.

The Techo Sen Russey Treb Park is home to forests and wild animals and was created by a royal decree in 2014.

It has a total area of 11,435sq km and is located in the Chheb I and Chheb II communes in Preah Vihear province.
