PM Hun Sen Thanks Japan for Continuous Support despite Covid-19 Pandemic
Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked Japan for their continuous assistance to Cambodia, particularly the Official Development Assistance (ODA) without any pause, despite the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 pandemic.
The premier expressed his gratitude while receiving a courtesy call from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Motegi Toshimitsu at the Peace Palace on Saturday morning.
Motegi Toshimitsu visited Cambodia in 2014 and has now become the first foreign minister to visit Cambodia since the outbreak of Covid-19. During the visit, the Japanese foreign minister also informed Samdech Hun Sen that Japan has prepared some funds to help Cambodia and other countries fight Covid-19.
The Japanese Government has provided grants to Cambodia totalling more than USD 41 million for the implementation of three projects: approximately USD 3.2 million for Human Resource Development Scholarship; approximately USD 19.8 million for Improvement of Referral Hospitals in Siem Reap Province; and USD 18.4 million for Economic and Social Development Program.
Japan also funded approximately USD 32 million for the project on the Expansion of Water Supply System in Kandal’s Ta Khmau municipality.
