The Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), the National University of Management (NUM) and the Prek Leap National Institute of Agriculture (PLNIA) signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday in a bid to reinforce research and development of agriculture and environment.

The MoU signed by the three institutions is an important step in having scholars and intellectuals from the various academies to cooperate and work closely to find methods and strategies in developing and advancing the Kingdom’s agricultural field, economy and the environment sectors.

Speaking at the event, the president of the RAC, Sok Touch, said that compared to other countries, Cambodia has great human resources; thousands of scholars and intellectuals who graduate with higher degrees every year.

What is lacking is the absence of collaboration and teamwork among them in reinforcing and developing our country, he added.

Touch also advised Cambodians to be more open-minded and embrace different cultures as it is a way to unify the Kingdom.

He said, “rather than praising foreign products and criticizing ours, we should be proud of the products we have.”

Touch also said many developed countries invest in their research and development areas because it brings about new innovation as well as speeds up the development of the state’s economy.

Vathana Thun, executive director of PLNIA, stressed that new discoveries and innovation will help our future agriculture sector.

He said, “if there is no proper research and planning, in the future it will affect the whole economy of the country as our farmers will have smaller yields and face more difficulties farming.” Khmer Times
