The Malaysian Business Chamber of Cambodia held a social gathering yesterday at Café Malaya as part of their annual celebration of the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

The gathering was graced by Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia, his Excellency Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim along with staff from the Malaysian embassy together with the MBCC President Mr Teh Sing and other members of the council.

At the MBCC meeting, attendees chatted over a range of topics regarding business with special focus on fast-tracking the Cambodian economic resurgence post COVID-19.

The council, started in 1993, has been responsible for a huge boost in investment within the Kingdom through several development-friendly investment policies, resulting in more employment opportunities for Cambodians with sectors exclusively managed by Malaysians.

“We have been running businesses and providing community services here for a very long time and we have confidence in the government of Cambodia. We will continue to sustain our dedication as key contributors to the country’s economy”, said Mr Teh in an interview with Khmer Times.

“As foreign investors, we live up to our legacy in demonstrating great business performance. We specilise in knowledge sharing, networking, capacity building and responsible investments which will further Cambodia’s economic growth”, he added.

He also said the Malaysian community in Cambodia is proactively adhering with the COVID-19 preventative measures implemented by the government while conducting their business.

A group member of the MBCC added “The gathering  here has been a success. Twenty-seven years being a member of this council is something of great pride for Malaysian business owners like us. We gathered not to solely discuss our growing investments but to show the spirit of camaraderie amid the pandemic and ensure the safety of one another moving forward.”

“The COVID-19 situation here in Cambodia is not as serious as compared to other countries, so we can still operate our businesses and conduct this meeting.”

“Gracing this event is simply a manifestation of our united ideals to contribute more to the economic development of both countries”, another member said.

A group member added: “The council is always active in creating participatory programs, working groups, public-private sector forums and carrying out Malaysian business community development work that supports and improves a healthier business climate in partnership with the government of Cambodia.
