Live-fire military exercises to be held in Siem Reap

New soldiers from the Military Region 4 School will begin an exercise with live ammunition on the O’Kon Toeng range, located at the border between Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey from Wednesday until Monday.

In announcing the training, Siem Reap provincial governor Tea Seiha said there will be a mobilization of soldiers along National Road 67, passing through Banteay Srei and Varin districts in Siem Reap province to reach the O’Kon Toeng range, located in Srenoy commune’s Trapaing Krasaing village in Varin.

He called on residents living along the route and near the actual shooting field not to be surprised and avoid traveling across or into the training grounds.

Deputy Commander Pov Heng told The Post on Tuesday that in this live-fire exercise new soldiers will take the theoretical knowledge they have learned so far and put it into real practice in the field.

“There will be no use of artillery, tanks or armored vehicles unlike the Golden Dragon or Hanuman live-ammunition military training exercises. They have to start learning how to shoot first with a handgun and a rifle,” he said.

Heng did not say how many new troops would be deployed to the area. “I don’t know the exact number, but all the new soldiers in Military Region 4 will have to complete the live ammunition exercises,” he said.

He called on soldiers who will be on duty to strive to showcase their abilities and talents. Phnom Penh Post
