Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in cooperation with child rights NGOs will make Khmer sign language learning programme available online, according to a local media report.

The news was shared in recent dissemination of Khmer sign language learning programme here in Phnom Penh.

Initiated by Save the Children, the programme will enable children with hearing disability to have better and more convenient access to the sign language learning – a foundation for them to achieve quality education, just like others.

The online learning programme provides video and digital lessons for children.

Ms. Elizabeth Pearce, Country Director of Save the Children, explained that the learning programme called Signs Discovery was developed in collaboration with Krousar Thmey Organisation.

The programme is already live under the online study system of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

In Cambodia, about 2.1 percent of the population are disabled children aged more than 5 years, and 57 percent of them went to primary school.

Comparing to the total number of children in Cambodia, some 7 percent of children are living with disability.
